Melbourne Airport Rail Link

Star Drilling spent three years geotechnical drilling for the Melbourne Airport Rail Link.

A lot of drilling occurred on or under the E.J. Whitten Rail Bridge.

The drilling involved HQ3 drilling and monitoring well installations.

We also mounted our sonic drill rig on rail carts and sonic drilled either side of the bridge abutments.

The drilling specification called for a combination of sonic and air rotary drilling at a diameter of 250mm with the installation of 168mm 316 stainless steel screens.
