In the 4th quarter of 2023 Star Drilling took on a remote drilling project on the Gove Peninsula in NT.

The requirement was to drill and install a 200mm production bore for mine site development. The client was hoping for a bore that would produce up to 15 l/p/s (54,000 litre per hour).

Working in conjunction with WSP hydro team, the first set was to mobilise the rig, mud pump and the large amount of tolling and consumables required.

Rotary mud drilling was undertaken at a diameter of 305mm to 96m where a suitable aquifer was encountered.

Star Drilling installed 15m of 200mm 304 stainless steel screen to depth and developed the bore.

The end result was a bore that produced close to 30 litres per second, exceeding the client’s expectations and requirements.

After pump testing the bore a bore pump was installed and a turkey’s nest constructed with a standpipe set up for large water truck to access.
